Police Rural Crime Investigators have examined video footage captured by an animal rights group at the Tahmoor plant. They allege several live birds had their legs cut off and that workers punched, kicked and stomped on turkeys before they were killed.
A 25-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty offences and has been bailed to appear in Picton Local Court next month.
In the US, the Huff Post reports that 46 million turkeys are slaughtered for Thanksgiving each year and only a few hundred are kept as companion animals, despite the birds being affectionate and protective (not to mention having the right to life a life free from cruelty!)
